Arabian Horse Times— A Magazine For The Ages
Arabian Horse Times magazine was founded in July of 1970 by Walter R. Mishek. Started as a newsprint flyer (the Arabian Horse Advertiser) above the Mishek family’s garage in Waseca, Minn., Arabian Horse Times has since grown into the premier Arabian horse publication.
Throughout the years when the industry enjoyed its most stratospheric growth, as well as through its period of radical readjustment, the Times has always been there. Innovative advertising opportunities, combined with cutting-edge editorial content and unsurpassed print quality, have made it the popular choice for enthusiasts around the Arabian horse industry.
In 2008, nearly four decades after its inception, Arabian Horse Times came under new ownership, as its founder Walter R. Mishek retired. Since July 1, 2008, the magazine has been under the direction of well-known and highly-respected Arabian horse community member Lara Ames, who has been a fixture on the Arabian scene since her childhood. At any major horse show, her blond hair is as instantly recognizable as the purple and tan stall drapes of her family’s Cedar Ridge Arabians. Lara’s friendly demeanor and familiar laugh belie her strong will and tireless motivation. Like her father and mother, Dick and Lollie, Lara is involved in numerous projects simultaneously, and she is always engaged in the pursuit of excellence in all she does.
With the addition of Arabian Horse Times publisher to her slate of pursuits, Lara has become an even more central figure in the Arabian horse community. All of her energy to serve our community is grounded in her love of the Arabian horse—a love which will guide a new era in the history of Arabian Horse Times.
